JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Key Accounts, the Benefits Consultant is responsible for assisting Account Executives with the analysis of client and prospect employee plan data.  This position functions as a benefits expert regarding client management and with plan design and financials.  The Benefits Consultant is an active member of the PSA Benefits team and advises employer groups between 50-400 employees, working primarily with fully-insured accounts as well as some self-insured and hybrid funding accounts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

With the assistance and guidance of Account Executives and other staff, the Benefits Consultant will:

  • Develop annual and 3-5 year strategic plans with clients regarding benefits program, to align with benefit program goals and objectives
  • Evaluate and develop employee benefit plan designs in alignment with strategic plan and goals
  • Manage the preparation and development of pre-renewal, renewal, and stewardship meeting presentations
  • Evaluate, analyze, and recommend appropriate benefit plan funding methodology
  • Evaluate renewal, including rating methodology, manage renewal process, and negotiate changes as needed
  • Manage and oversee Benefits Analyst with RFP preparation, marketing strategy, and present plan options to clients and prospects
  • Coordinate the development open enrollment materials and miscellaneous benefit communication materials with Communications team
  • Assist in client compliance reviews, and coordinate the development and delivery of Summary Plan Descriptions and other compliance related deliverables with Compliance team
  • Evaluate and present solutions to meet healthcare reform and other regulatory changes as needed
  • Oversee development of and present benchmarking analysis and reports to clients
  • Develop and propose employer subsidy strategy and levels
  • Analyze and present client’s claims data when available
  • Wellness plan strategy and development
  • Proactively identify issues requiring action and develop innovative solutions
  • Manage vendor relationships including RFPs, contracts, and performance metrics
  • Negotiate rates, plan designs, and contract provisions with vendors
  • Manage implementation of benefit plan design and vendor changes
  • Function as a benefit expert, reviewing unique situation and recommending appropriate action to Account Executives and clients
  • Evaluate and identify revenue opportunities via proposing additional coverage or benefits solutions, cross-selling other PSA solutions or services, or commission rate increases as appropriate
  • Manage client relationship, including C-level management and Human Resources team
  • Serve as a mentor to more junior staff

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience in Employee Benefits preferred
  • Ability to analyze data and make appropriate recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to independently organize and perform work activities and to simultaneously handle multiple complex projects
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver presentations to groups of employees
  • Strong computer skills, primarily with Excel, PowerPoint and Word, as well as Benefit Point
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to adjust negotiation style for different situations
  • Ability to perform associated paperwork
  • Currently licensed in Life and Health
  • CEBS certification a plus
