Claims Advocate

JOB SUMMARY:

The Claims Advocate is responsible for carrier/client collaboration and advocacy of commercial lines claims, determining plans of action and/or claims management expectations. Works directly with multiple insurance company representatives and clients to manage claims cost on all lines of commercial insurance coverages. Presents services overview and claims status reports at prospect and client renewal meetings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•  Develop positive relationships with PSA associates, clients, and carriers
•  Act as a resource/point of contact for complex claims issues
•  Reduce loss costs associated with claims
•  Oversee insurance representatives and case manager’s handling of claims and aggressively pursue timely closure of all claims
•  Assist in investigations of claims, compensability and damages
•  Participate in claims strategies development with insurance representatives and attorneys
•  Develop, facilitate, and present effective claims management training and resources to educate our clients
•  Analyze claims status, prepare and/or present reports to Account Executives and clients as requested
•  Keep abreast of all new developments in the claim’s arena through periodicals, seminars, membership organizations and carrier meetings
•  Maintain an extensive knowledge of insurance coverages and markets
•  Maintain a claims status diary of select client’s claims
•  Attend hearings, trials, and mediations when appropriate
•  Document claim activity on agency and account management system
•  Other assignments as directed by management

EXPECTATIONS/DESIRED SKILLS:

•  Practical knowledge of all major commercial insurance lines of coverage and claims principles, terminology and practices/procedures
•  Excellent communication skills, both oral and written is required
•  Must be self-motivated, problem solving/solution oriented with goal setting and project administration skills
•  Strong interpersonal skills including negotiation skills, team building skills, and flexibility
•  Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel from upper management to industrial labor work force
•  Working knowledge of federal and state legislation and legal issues related to the insurance industry required
•  Mathematical aptitude and attention to detail required
•  Must have the ability to prepare and present client presentations with clarity and understanding
•  Must have strong internal and external customer service skills, with the ability to develop sound relationships with multiple clients and claims partners
•  Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
•  Willingness to expand knowledge and effectiveness in insurance industry by successful completion of extended insurance education beyond continuing education requirements for licensing
•  Organizational and time management skills to prioritize workloads to meet time sensitive deadlines required
•  Must have the ability to analyze and interpret claims information and loss data to facilitate decision making
•  Demonstrated professional, tactful negotiation and persuasion skills to achieve objectives required

QUALIFICATIONS:

•  Minimum 10 years of multi-line commercial insurance claims management experience in the private, public or insurance sectors
•  Multiple jurisdictional experience a plus
•  Insurance and claims management designations/certifications a plus
•  Property Casualty License a plus
•  Bachelor’s degree preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS/TRAVEL:
Work is performed primarily in an office environment, with some flexibility for tele-working.
Position requires approximately 10% domestic travel and exposure to industrial work environments.
