PSA’s Senior Safety Consultant Steve Pomponi and Property & Casualty Account Executive, Valerie Corekin, recently spoke at a Global Safety Conference with over 4,000 attendees. During the event, Steve and Valerie presented at a breakout session for the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) discussing the topic “Cyber Risk, It’s no Longer the IT Department’s Concern, It’s Our Concern.” The objective of their presentation was to inform attendees about protecting their assets by not only focusing on traditional physical risks such as slips and falls, but also on cyber risks.

“We hear about cyber risks daily. Evaluating, quantifying and controlling these risks are critical steps for protecting assets. Even if you don’t store personal information, many manufacturing processes and environmental systems are now remotely accessible. This session reviews basic exposures and tools to quantify the exposure and available insurance protection,” said Valerie.

Key points discussed included:

  • Identifying types of exposures for companies.
  • Quantifying the exposure and protection needed.
  • Resources available to perform an assessment and quantitative analysis of cyber risks.
  • Insurance coverages available to reduce risk and protect assets.

The presentation was very well received by attendees, and Valerie and Steve were invited to speak at the ASSE conference next year. They also received a request from a representative for a major metropolitan city to speak to their staff about this topic.
