Steve Sines, Volunteer Firefighter, Partners with PSA to Support the Abingdon Fire Company

As an organization focused on giving back, PSA encourages employees to nominate a non-profit organization of their choice to be considered as the recipient of PSA employee charitable fund donations. A different employee-nominated non-profit is awarded these funds on a quarterly basis.
The 2022 second quarter recipient of the funds is the Abingdon Fire Company nominated by Steve Sines, VP, Employee Benefits Advisor at PSA.
The Abingdon Fire Company is a volunteer fire and emergency medical services organization comprised of over 120 volunteer firefighters, EMTs and paramedics located in Harford County, Maryland. Their mission is to minimize the loss of life and property resulting from fires, medical emergencies, and other disasters through prevention methods, educational services, fire suppression, medical assistance, and rescue skills. Their volunteers actively participate in their community, serve as role models, and strive to make significant contributions to the safety of the citizens of Abingdon and its surrounding areas.
Steve Sines is a life member, Firefighter, EMT, and serves as the President and as a member on the Board of Directors at the Abingdon Fire Company. In 2021, volunteer firefighters, EMTs and paramedics at the Abingdon Fire Company responded to 5,772 emergency medical service (EMS) calls and 1,675 fires, motor vehicle accidents, rescues, and other related emergency calls. Steve noted that the Abingdon Fire Company never stopped responding to EMS calls even during the peak of the pandemic. “Our members were exposed daily, not only to the “normal” risks of firefighting and related emergency services, but also to patients who had symptoms of COVID and patients who had tested positive for COVID.” Many members of the Abingdon Fire Company tested positive for COVID after being exposed on the job, most of which resulted in quarantine and a couple of members required hospitalization.
